TVS Logistics Inaugurates Assembly Facility at Sholavaram - August 22 2011
TVS Logistics Services Limited (TVS LSL), today inaugurated its Logistics Assembly facility at Sholavaram, 40 Kms. North of Chennai. This will be a dedicated and full-fledged Assembly facility for Ashok Leyland (Power Solution business) to assemble their Genset Engine powerpacks in the range of 10 – 2000 KVA capacity for both domestic and export markets. The facility was inaugurated by Mr. Vinod K. Dasari, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland in the presence of Mr. R. Dinesh, Managing Director, TVS Logistics.
According to the business model, Ashok Leyland will supply Engines and Radiator to TVS Logistics, which will provide end-to-end supply chain solutions by ensuring infrastructure, procuring child parts, assembling, packaging, material handling solutions and Logistics solutions for the assembled Genset engine powerpacks as per Ashok Leyland’s requirements. This arrangement would also mean that TVS Logistics will be a single-point of contact for Ashok Leyland for assembling their 10 - 2000 KVA range of Genset Engine powerpacks.
With an initial investment of Rs. 25 million, the plant will have a capacity of 14,500 units per annum that can be up-scaled to 30,000 units. Strategically located near the Ennore Port and well-connected by road to the cities of Bengaluru and Kolkata, the facility will assemble different Genset engine powerpacks in the range of 10 – 2000 KVA for Ashok Leyland and is expected to meet their sales requirements for the next three years. Situated in a total space of 70,000 sq.ft. in Sholavaram, the integrated facility has adequate facilities for end-to-end movement of engines, movement of components to assembly, testing, packing and dispatch areas.
Says Mr. R. Dinesh, Managing Director, TVS Logistics Services Ltd., “This facility is a milestone for us as very few Supply Chain companies globally have the capability to provide end-to-end Supply Chain Solutions which include taking ownership of the sub-assemblies. Thanks to our acquisitions in the US and UK, we are now able to offer this service in India. I am confident that this will be only the first of many such initiatives we will add to our portfolio of services. We are even more delighted that we are commencing this activity with Ashok Leyland first, as we have a long and special relationship with Ashok Leyland and Mr. Vinod Dasari’s presence confirms the importance of this occasion.”

Overall, the Supply Chain market in India is evolving and as in developed countries, complete outsourcing is expected to slowly start in India. As always, TVS Logistics and Ashok Leyland have become the pioneering example of a win-win partnership through setting up this facility. This will give Ashok Leyland the flexibility while, TVS Logistics would bring in Global best practices on sub-assembly operations.

TVS LSL's participation in Logistics Summit 2011
